What is volumetric weight?
Aircraft and delivery vehicles run out of space before they run out of weight capacity. So carriers charge light, bulky parcels on the space they occupy - their volumetric (or dimensional) weight.
Measure the longest point of each side in centimetres, multiply length × width × height and divide by the carrier's divisor. Your chargeable weight is the higher of that figure and the actual weight.
Worked example
A 60 × 40 × 40 cm carton weighing 8 kg, sent by express courier:
60 × 40 × 40 = 96,000 cm³
96,000 ÷ 5,000 = 19.2 kg volumetric
max(8, 19.2) = 19.5 kg chargeable
Courier weights are rounded up to the next 0.5 kg. Repacking into a 50 × 40 × 30 cm box would cut the chargeable weight to 12 kg.
